TSO DEL command tip

If TSO DEL is issued for TAPE dataset, only CATALOG entry for that dataset is removed. We can use the dataset, by issuing UNIT and VOL=SER.

But for DASD dataset, both CATALOG entry and VTOC entry are removed.

If DELETE is issued in JCL, both CATALOG entry and VTOC entry are removed for a DASD dataset.

If DELETE is issued in JCL, both CATALOG entry and file are deleted for a TAPE dataset.

If we put (OLD,CATLG), for unavailable TAPE dataset with UNIT and VOL=SER, CATALOG entry will be made for TAPE dataset. But actually dataset won’t be available in the tape.
